べビーカステラ

Today is the last day in February. Usually, High School Graduation is held on March 1st. Jeff is going to have a small graduation party with ESS students for graduating ESS members tomorrow after the graduation. As students' request, they are going to make Takoyaki, but I am sure that Jeff is the one most excited about it! But I don't know if High School girls can get full with just Takoyaki... Yesterday, Jeff came home from English Camp and said "I didn't know that High School girls can eat so much!" So I made some sweet red bean paste so that they can make little pancakes on Takoyaki maker. It was my first time making sweet red bean paste, but it turned out good...I think.

今日で２月も終わり。早いわ〜。明日は高校は卒業式。ジェフは明日卒業式の後、ESSの３年生の生徒の為にGraduation Partyをするそうです。生徒達のリクエストで、たこ焼きパーティーをするみたいですが、一番喜んでいるのはジェフのはず（笑）。でも高校生がたこ焼きだけでお腹いっぱいになるのかな？昨日もEnglish Campから帰って来たジェフが、「高校生の女の子があんなにいっぱい食べるとは思わなかった！」とびっくりしていました。ちょうどお家に小豆があったので、たこ焼き器でべビーカステラが作れるように、あんこを作りました。あんこ作りは初めてで、失敗しないか心配やったけど、なんとか上手にできました☆

試しに生地からべビーカステラを作ってみました。チョコレートバナナ、とろけるチーズ、そして抹茶あんこ♡

I used this syrup for green tea pancake. They were all good!

抹茶の生地には、この抹茶ラテのシロップを入れてみました☆

たこ焼きパーティーいいな〜。私と赤ちゃんも行きたいわ！タコの他に、ソーセージ、チーズ、ツナ、納豆とかも入れるんやって。納豆が美味しいって生徒が言ってたらしい。お好み焼きには入れるから、同じ様な感じかな？

English Camp

Jeff was super busy this morning preparing for the English Camp. He had so much stuff to bring to school. He could not bring them all at once, so our baby and I took some to him later the day. When I got to school, his principle and supervisor came instead of Jeff. I guess his workshop finished earlier than he planned, and everyone was starving so they decided to make lunch. Jeff was at the cooking room, and his principle and supervisor said that we can go see him there so we decided to see Jeff's work!

今朝はジェフはEnglish Campの準備で大忙しでした。大荷物だったので、何度かに分けて学校まで運んだのだけど、残りは私と赤ちゃんで後で持って行く事に。待ち合わせの時間に入り口で待っていると、ジェフではなく、校長先生とジェフの上司の先生が来て下さいました。ジェフのワークショップが予定より早く終って、みんなお腹が空いた〜と言うので、クッキングクラスを予定より早く始めたそう。クッキングクラスを覗いて行っても良いと言って下さったので、赤ちゃんと２人でジェフのお仕事ぶりを見ることにしました☆

クラムチャウダーとブレッドボール、美味しそうにできていました！みんなも美味しい、美味しいと言ってくれて、準備した甲斐がありました☆

セロリに振り回された一日

Today was Sunday but Jeff had to work. He had English Camp at his school for the first time. They had some workshops and cooking class. Jeff taught them how to make clam chowder for lunch. He also made bread bowls for clam chowder. He had to make those bread bowls on Saturday, so our baby and I went for shopping for the ingredients for the clam chowder. Celery is one of the main ingredients for clam chowder, but it is kind of expensive here in Japan. When it is cheap, you can get a bundle of Celery for like $1.50, but if not it costs $1.50 for a stick. Jeff needed at least 6 sticks of Celery to serve 20 people, but unfortunately everywhere I went did not sell Celery by bundle. I checked 6 or 7 stores to compare the price and the cheapest I could find was like $1.20 a stick. After I checked all the stores I could think of, I decided to go back to the cheapest store, but then I found this little vegetable store called "Shiomi"! I went inside and saw a big bundle of Celery for $4.50. It is not cheap, but cheaper than other store, so I decided to get them. Thanks Shiomi!!! I came home, and our house looked like a bakery!

今日は日曜日だけど、ジェフはお仕事です。東舞鶴高校で、初のEnglish Campが今日です☆英語でのワークショップと、クッキングのクラスがあって、みんなでクラムチャウダーを作る予定。昨日はジェフは、一日ブレッドボール作りで大忙しだったので、私と赤ちゃんで買い出しに行きました。クラムチャウダーには欠かせないお野菜セロリですが、この辺では安い時で一束１５０円位、高いと一本で同じ値段です。２０人分のクラムチャウダーには、セロリ６本程必要だったのですが、１件目のスーパーでは束売りしておらず、１本１５８円...。予算もそんなに無いので他のスーパーへ。２件目のスーパーは１本１２８とちょっと安いけど、やっぱり束売りは無し...その後小さい商店を３、４件程覗いたけど、どこもセロリは置いておらず。次のスーパーで一本１００円のセロリを見つけて、やった〜！と思ったのも束の間、１本しか置いてない...そんなんじゃ足りない〜。最後の頼みの綱の、一番大きなスーパーに行くも、そこでも１本１５８円で束売りは無し。しかたない、１本１２８円の所に戻るか...と思って歩いていると、八百屋「シオミ」発見！でもこの八百屋さん、以前舞鶴に引っ越して来てすぐに通りがかった時に、「うちよりスーパーの方が安いよ」って店主のおじさんに言われたので、今回もあんまり期待はできないな...と思いながら一応覗いてみると、かなり大きな束のセロリがありました〜☆値段を聞くと、１本なら１４０円だけど、１束で買うなら４５０円で良いよ〜。ちょっと高いけど、６、７本の束だから、他のスーパーよりは安いので、これに決めました。さすが八百屋「シオミ」（笑）セロリに振り回された１日でした...。お家に帰って来たら、ジェフのパン作りはかなり進んでいました☆家の中がパンの良いにおいでいっぱいでした〜☆

京都御苑

Today Jeff had to go work in Kyoto city. It was nice weather so our baby and I went to Kyoto city with Jeff, but we went to see plum blossoms at Kyoto Imperial Palace Park.

We bought some lunch at Kyoto station, and ate them at Imperial Palace Park. It was a little cloudy...but eating lunch outside was fun!

京都駅でお弁当を買って、ちょっと早めのランチを京都御苑で食べました☆少し曇ってたけど、暖かくて、お外で食べるお弁当は最高〜。

We got some Kyoto sweets for dessert.

After lunch, Jeff went to work, and our baby and I walked around the park and saw plum blossoms.

ランチの後、ジェフはお仕事へ。私と赤ちゃんで、京都御苑の中の梅を見て歩きました。

2月の半頃からが見頃と書いてあったので行ったけど、まだまだ満開ではありませんでした。奇麗に咲いている木があるにはあるけど、ぽつん、ぽつんという感じ。でも奇麗でした。

京都で買って来た八つ橋☆黒ごま味と桜あんは食べた事が無かったので♡

今日もお天気！

Today was nice weather again! Makes me happy :) I went for a walk with our baby today, but this time I did not decide where to go. I started walking towards the mountain from our house, then I saw a small park. I don't know if I can call that as a park...but there was a temple behind it.

今日も良いお天気が続いています☆嬉しい〜。今日は行き先を決めずに、知らない道をくねくね歩いてみることにしました。家から山の方への坂をず〜っと上がって行って途中で曲がると、ジェフの学校の方へ行くのですが、今日は曲がらずにひたすら坂を上りました。ベビーカーを押しながらの上り坂は結構きつい！でも先の方に公園が見えたので、とりあえずそこまで行ってみる事に。辿り着いてみると、公園の奥にはお寺がありました。智性院というお寺みたい。

After we got home, I started cooking for dinner. He was in the baby cage looking at the computer screen but was so quiet. I got worried and looked at him and found him asleep:)

公園では遊びませんでした。すぐ横にお墓がいっぱいあったので...。

お家に帰って来て、夜ご飯の準備をしようと台所へ。赤ちゃんのこの位置からパソコンの画面が見えるので、いつもここから覗き込んでいるのですが、あまりにも静かなので様子を見に行ってみると寝てました。

のんびりな一日

Today was so nice! Jeff is having dinner with other teachers tonight for the end of the year (Japanese school year ends in March and starts in April), so I don't have to cook! So I decided not to do anything around the house. I just enjoyed this nice weather with our baby:)

I took our baby to the little aquarium inside Maizuru commerce and sightseeing place before, but he was sleeping last time. He took a nap before we left home today, so I decided to go there again.

今日はす〜ごく良いお天気！ジェフは学校の先生達と年度末の飲み会があるのでご飯要らないし、明日のお天気も良いようなので、今日の内に明日のお買い物もしておかないと！って思わなくても良いし、今日は赤ちゃんとお散歩だけを楽しむ事にしました☆こんなことはほんとに久しぶりです！

前にお散歩の途中に舞鶴商工観光センターのミニ水族館（大きい水槽のこと〜笑）に連れて行った時は眠っていたけど、今日はばっちりお昼寝後だったので、もう一度行ってみることにしました。最初は...

But he got all excited once I took him out of the stroller!

という感じやったけど、ベビーカーから出してあげたら興味津々☆

There were little shrimps that you can feed to the fish. When I got closer to where I can drop shrimps, all the fish started gathering. You can put your hands in water to touch the fish.

小エビの餌が置いてあって自由に餌をあげられます。魚は小エビの臭いが分かるのかな？餌を入れる所に近づくと、皆寄って来ました。ココから手を入れて、魚に触ったりもできます☆

This yellow one kept pushing other fish away and ate all of the shrimps.

この黄色いのばっかりが、他の魚を押しのけて来ました。

これはなんだろな〜って思ってるのかな？

I did not know before but you can go outside on the top floor. You can view the sea of Japan.

このビル６階までだけど、６階は展望台になっています。今日初めて知った！

On the way home, I saw one spot with pink from far away. It was on the other side of the river but I decided to go around to see this plum flowers. They are in season in Osaka and southern Kyoto right now but they are hardly seen in Maizuru.

帰り道、遠くから一角だけピンク色の場所を発見！川の反対側だったけど、ちょっと回り道して行ってみると、そこだけ梅が奇麗に咲いていました。写真を撮っていたら、自転車に乗ったおばさんも遠くから見つけて見に来たみたいで、「ここだけ陽がよく当たるのかな〜」とお話。

コート着て歩いていたら、ちょっと暑いくらいの日でした。このまま春になってくれるのかな〜。

お散歩

Today was little cloudy but not too cold, so I took our baby out on stroller. A teacher at Jeff's school gave him this blanket:) He passed out soon after we started going though...

今日は曇ってるような晴れているようなお天気だったけど、そんなに寒くなかったのでお散歩に行って来ました☆すぐに眠ってしまったけど...　このブランケットも、ジェフの学校の先生に頂きました。ベビーカーでも、抱っこやおんぶの時も使えてとっても便利です♪

怖かった〜！！！

I found this Chinese vegetable, Kong Xin Cai?, at the supermarket the other day:) I love this vegetable!! I used to order them when I went to Chinese restaurants in the U.S.

この間みつけたお野菜。空芯菜の新芽☆空芯菜は大好きで、アメリカに居た時も中華料理を食べに行ったら良く注文していたけど、新芽を食べるのは初めてです。

お鍋にピッタリ！って書いてあるけど、サラダでも食べられると書いてあったので、サラダに。見た目は貝割れみたいな、でも味というか食感は水菜みたいな感じ。この鶏の胸肉は、お鍋にお湯を沸騰させて、その中にお肉を入れて蓋をして、１０秒数えたら火を止めて３０分放置するという方法で作ってみました。初めは本当にちゃんと火通るのかな〜と心配やったけど、ちゃんと中まで火も通ってるし、パサパサにならないし、美味しい♪

Jeff's boss at his school gave our baby a cute little backpack! I put it on his back all day...it is just so cute.

先日、ジェフの学校の先生から、赤ちゃんリュックを頂きました！こんな小さな体でリュックを背負ってる姿がなんとも可愛い♡かわいくて、家の中でずっと背負ってうろうろしてます（笑）。

Jeff got a hair cut today. He went to the new hair cut place. After he got a hair cut, the guy pointed Jeff's face and said "Face?", so Jeff said "Yes" thinking that the guy was going to trim his sideburns...but WRONG! He shaved Jeff's five chin hairs with a straight razor. That was not all. He also shaved and shaped Jeff's eyebrows too. Jeff was really scared! Good thing he doesn't have a unibrow anymore:P

今日はジェフが散髪してきました。初めてのお店だったのですが、髪を切った後、顔を指して「顔？？」と聞かれたので、もみあげの所を剃ってくれるのかと思ったジェフは「はい」と返事。すると、あの、昔の散髪屋さん（テレビでしか見た事ないけど）のような剃刀を出して来て、ジェフの５本くらいしかないヒゲを剃ってくれたそうです。人に顔を剃ってもらった事の無いジェフは、怖い〜〜〜と思いながらじっとしていると、だんだん剃刀が眉毛に近づいて来て...眉毛剃られてしまいました...。眉毛と眉毛の間も剃られて...かっこ良くなったでしょ！？

HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY♡

Today is Valentine's Day! While Jeff was at work, I made some Carmel Banana Muffins for him.

今日はバレンタイン♡ジェフがお仕事に行っている間に、キャラメルバナナマフィンを作りました☆

While I was making them, our baby was playing in the baby cage. He was laughing but then got quiet, so I looked in the cage and found him sleeping. One of his sock is missing :)

作っている間一人で遊んでてくれた赤ちゃん。きゃっきゃと笑って楽しそうにしていたのに、急に静かになったな〜と思ったら...眠ってました。靴下が片方脱げてる〜。

For dinner, I made Chizimi which is Korean pancake. I made it a heart shape for Valentine!

夜はほうれん草のちぢみ。バレンタインらしく、ハート型に焼いてみました！

Over the weekend, we have received Valentine's gift from one of my friends. It was chocolate covered potato chips. I had never had them before, but it was really good. It was the first Valentine gift which our baby received in his life! (In Japan, girls give boys chocolate on Valentine's Day, and boys are supposed to give something back on White Day which is on March 14th).

週末、お友達からポテトチョコが届きました☆赤ちゃん初のバレンタインチョコゲット！でも食べられないから、パパとママが食べてあげました（笑）。初めて食べたけど、美味しかった！

Jeff brought some Valentine's gift back from school today. His boss gave him some chocolate and a pair of cute little shoes for our baby!

そして今日も、ジェフの上司の先生からバレンタインのプレゼントにチョコと靴を頂きました☆

Look! I can stand up good with these shoes :)

I was thinking what we did last year on Valentine's Day. I was around 7 month pregnant, and we had a parenting class that we needed to go to. I remember the weather was nice, not like this year, so we walked more than an hour to go to the place. I also remember that Jeff fell asleep during the class because he did not understand what was going on.

去年のバレンタインは何してたかな〜と考えてました。去年は妊娠７ヶ月くらいで、ちょうどパパママ学級に行ったんやった〜。今年みたいにお天気悪くなかったから、片道１時間以上の所まで、ぶらぶら運動がてら歩いて行ったな〜。受講中は、ジェフは日本語分からなくて居眠りしてたな（笑）。懐かし〜。
